Nadal wins 13th French Open Rafael Nadal demolished Novak Djokovic 6-0, 6-2, 7-5 to win his 13th French Open on Sunday and equal the all-time record of 20 Grand Slam titles held by Roger Federer, who hailed the victory as "one of sport's greatest achievements". For world No 1 Djokovic, the defeat ended his hopes of an 18th Slam and of becoming the first man since Rod Laver in 1969 to win all four majors twice. In the women's singles final at Roland Garros on Saturday, teenager Iga Swiatek became the first Polish player to win a Grand Slam singles title as she beat American fourth seed Sofia Kenin 6-4, 6-1. The 54th-ranked 19-year-old, who did not drop a set throughout the two-week tournament, also became the lowest-ranked French Open female winner since the WTA computer rankings began in 1975. |
