(Adopted at the Second Meeting of the Standing Committee of the Eighth National People's Congress on July 2,1993 ) In accordance with the Decision on Authorizing the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress to Establish a Preliminary Working Body of the Preparatory Committee for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region adopted At the First Session of the Eighth National People's Congress, the Second Meeting of the Standing Committee of the Eighth National People's Congress decides to establish a Preliminary Working Commission of the Preparatory Committee for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Under the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress. The Preliminary Working Commission is a working body of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, whose funcion is, before the establishment of the Preparatory Committee for the Hong Kong Special Administrative region, to carry out relevant preparatory work to ensure the smooth transition in 1997 when China resumes its exercise of sovereignty over Hong Kong. The Preliminary Working Commission of the Preparatory Committee for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region shall be composed of persons from all walks of life and experts from both mainland and Hong Kong among whom the Hong Kong members shall constitute no less than 50 percent of its membership. The Preliminary Working Commission shall cease its function after the establishment of the Preparatory Committee for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. |
