J.K.Rowling has topped the Forbes list of highest-paid European celebrities after earning a staggering £71million this year. The Harry Potter author, 52, was closely followed by footballer Cristiano Ronaldo who raked in £70million - while Coldplay scooped £66million. Ranking fourth in the prestigious round-up is 29-year-old Grammy-award winner Adele, who has earned £51million in the past 12 months. The list, published on Monday, showed that one-fifth of this year's Celebrity 100 list members hail from Europe. J.K. Rowling, the highest-paid author in the world, also placed third on the list of the world’s highest-paid celebrities. Only two women number among the 20 highest-paid European entertainers, reflecting the overall gender disparity of the Celebrity 100, which is 84 per cent male. Britsh songstress Adele is the only woman among the European ranks asides from Rowling. Twelve of these European entertainers are from the U.K, including television personalities Gordon Ramsay - who ranked sixth with £45million - and Simon Cowell who came in at number 11 with £32million. Mega-producer Calvin Harris, 33, came ninth with £36million, nudging Formula One racing pro Lewis Hamilton into tenth place with £34million. Meanwhile, fellow Brit, 26-year-old Castle On The Hill singer Ed Sheeran came 15th this year with a fortune of £27million. Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, Portugal, Serbia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland each claim one entry. Professional athletes account for half with three footballers, three racing drivers, two tennis players, one golfer and one mixed martial artist. Meanwhile, 46-year-old Mark Wahlberg was named as the world’s most handsomely remunerated actor in the list. The Ted star's earnings over the last 12 months have been calculated at a staggering £61million, nudging Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, last year’s leading man, into second place. Johnson made £48million. Third on the Forbes list, having earned £40million since the summer of 2016, is one Vin Diesel. |
