The White Rabbit Ice Cream is a limited-time offer created for Chinese New Year with media company Foodbeast. The flavor was created by blending milky White Rabbit into a rich ice-cream base—no rice paper included, though. We're sure it'll taste like childhood anyway. We knew we had to save this Asian favorite flavor for Lunar New Year. Intensely milky and singular in flavor, it encapsulates childhood reminiscence for many Asian Americans. “It’s shocking,” Lopez says, who stresses that Wanderlust is a tiny operation that makes all of its ice cream at its 1,200-square-foot Tarzana location. “We obviously didn’t expect this. We don’t know how this happened. To see that many people mobilize just to taste one flavor is pretty cool. I think it reaches that little kid in everyone. For me, it was nostalgic.” In 2018, Singaporean café Sunday Folks offered a White Rabbit-inspired soft serve at a pop-up they did in Shanghai, China. Their version had milk ice cream with a milk-caramel sauce, milk mochi, and a sheet of rice paper. |
