Voices of the Mountains Zou Difan
To me a mountain seems to stand for silence; ranges rear up like great waves in the distance yet remain quiet as cold clouds; ordinary barren summits open hungry lips heavenward.
Mountains grow forests where the songs of birds are born; they who embrace ice and snow, let their tears fall in gurgling streams, turning water wheels, as if propelling time forward.
Mountains, when prospectors dig into your green slopes, you, in the spirit of self-sacrifice, give up your wealth of gold and silver, coal and iron to them, so that we can hear the clinking of metals.
Is the mountain really silent? Shout as it and you will hear the boom of its echoed reply! Have you ever seen a mountain erupt, lava shooting high, scorching the clouds with stabbing fire? Rocking the earth with an awesome rumble.
