An apple-head 缺心眼的人,笨蛋

May:Trying to keep something from (向…隐瞒)me? Well, I’ve got your number (知道底细).

Jim:What do you know? I’ve never let the cat out of the bag (泄密), you know?

May:You are head over heels (深深地)in love with a girl in the hotel.

Jim:How do you know? Who told you so?

May:A bird told me (我不告诉你).But there’s nothing wrong with that.

Jim:But there is something wrong with someone else.

May:What’s the trouble?

Jim:The department manager is all over (深深地)her. He say he loves her.

May:What about your friend? Did she fall for (爱上)him?

Jim:Of course not! She think he’s an apple-head (缺心眼的人) .She doesn’t like an apple-head man, you know.

May:It was a false alarm (虚惊一场)to me. Now you don’t have the butterflies in your stomach(心里紧张) ,do you?

Cost an arm and a leg 价格昂贵,宰人

May:Yor are in a bad mood (心情不好)today. What’s eating you?

Jim:I had an argument with Jenny. I asked her to go shopping with me and thought I could take the opportunity to talk sense into (开导)her. When I asked her to take a pick (挑一挑)at the fur coats, she refused to do what I liked her to do.

May:Maybe she thought fur coats are too expensive. Girls don’t like to pay through the nose (让人敲竹杠),you know?

Jim:But I told her I would foot the bill. She still insisted on (坚持)not buying a fur coat. She argued that items like that cost an arm and a leg (宰人).

May:She is a very good girl. If I were her, I wouldn’t let my money go down the drain (让钱打水漂儿),either. You should appreciate that.

Jim:But I just wanted to please her so that we could sit down and have a good talk.

May:You can’t be more wrong. You can’t buy affections (收买感情).
