As the New York sunset disappeared

在你的空寂花园里 这是艾尔顿强献给好友约翰蓝侬的作品，也是安德森很偏爱的一首歌。
艾尔顿强和约翰蓝侬在西洋乐坛上都是举足轻重的人物，但这两位风格截然不同的艺人，私底下却是音乐路上的密友。在一九七四年这段期间，他们都曾出现对方的唱片录音中。如艾尔顿强重唱披头四的名作"Lucy in the sky with diamond"，约翰蓝侬为他担任幕后制作和和声的工作；约翰蓝侬的个人专辑"Walls and bridges"中，艾尔顿强也出了不少力。七四年十一月廿八日，蓝侬以特别来宾的身份出现在艾尔顿强的演唱会中，两人合唱的披头四作品"I saw her standing there"现场录音，后来还被放在艾尔顿强的单曲唱片"Philadelphia freedom"的Ｂ面。
1980年，约翰蓝侬被精神失常的歌迷枪杀毙命，艾尔顿强于是和作词老搭档Bernie Taupin合写了"Empty garden"，以纪念两人的友谊，歌词中出现多次的"强尼"，即是约翰蓝侬的昵称；而"一只小虫子怎会破坏这么多的栽种"这句歌词指的就是那位凶手的暴行。
约翰蓝侬的辞世的确是乐坛的损失，除了"Empty garden"以外，纪念蓝侬的歌曲，还有"Moonlight shadow"、" All those years ago". |
