Liverpool, Portsmouth, Fulham to compete in HK
The English Premier League team Liverpool, Portsmouth and Fulham will be competing for the Barclays Asia Trophy in Hong Kong this summer, the Premier League and the Hong Kong Football Club (HKFA) announced on Wednesday. The four team tournament, which will also feature South China FC, will take on a knock-out format with a final to determine the winner and a third-place playoff. All matches will take place in the 40,000 capacity Hong Kong Stadium and will be officiated by Premier League referees in accordance with the Premier League rules. Ricard Scudamore, chief executive of the Premier League, said, "The Premier League has a fantastic following across East Asia and nowhere more so than in Hong Kong. This is a great opportunity for those fans that follow our competition week-in, week-out to experience what a Premier League game is like in the flesh." After in Thailand in 2005 and Malaysia in 2003, this is the third Premier League tournament in Asia. |
