Rafael Nadal's return to form had him jumping for joy but he had a little bit too much of a spring in his step. Ahead of his fourth-round encounter at Wimbledon against Luxembourg's Gilles Muller, Nadal began his pre-match ritual in the tunnel of jumping up and down in a corridor. However, this time it ended up becoming a bumpy ride for the Spaniard as he smacked his head against the top of a door frame. As Muller turned around to see what had happened behind him, he saw a beaming Nadal who was laughing at what he had just done. Nadal's afternoon did not get any easier as he crashed out against Muller after the longest match of this year's Wimbledon so far. It was a monumental upset when Muller toppled 31-year-old Nadal, who is three years his junior and a fellow left-hander. Muller won the first two sets 6-3, 6-4 and looked set to cause a huge upset at the start of the third before Nadal dug in. The former Wimbledon champion won sets three and four 6-3, 6-4. After digging himself out of difficult situations over and over during the course of a riveting encounter that lasted more than 4½ hours, Nadal suddenly faltered, getting broken in the last game and losing to 16th-seeded Gilles Muller of Luxembourg. |
