厉害了!《欲望都市》女星宣布参选纽约州长!
Those rumors that Cynthia Nixon was running for governor have now become truth. The actress and activist announced on her Twitter account on Monday that she is running for governor of New York, with plans to compete in the September 13 democratic primary against the incumbent , Governor Andrew Cuomo. “New York is where I was raised, and where I'm raising my kids,”she says in the campaign announcement video. “I'm a proud public school graduate. And a prouder public school parent. I was given chances I just don't see for New York's kids today.” “Half the kids in our upstate cities live below the poverty line. How did we let this happen? I love New York . I've never wanted to live anywhere else. But something has to change.” And, as some New Yorkers will be happy to hear, she wants to fix those broken subways. Nixon also released an opening statement about her announcement to run, describing her agenda as a “bold, progressive message” and calling out Cuomo as a “centrist.” Nixon has been teasing a run for governor for some time, and has planted her flag with frustrated New York subway riders, studying transportation policy, in light of the numerous subway delays and problems that have occurred during Cuomo's two terms. As of 2018, Cuomo’s approval ratings have dropped below 50 percent, according to a Quinnipiac University Poll. In New York City, his approval ratings are at 52 percent. According to a new poll from Siena College , however, Cuomo holds a wide lead over Nixon for the upcoming September 13 primaries. Asked who they would choose in the Democratic primary, 66 percent of voters went with Cuomo; 19 percent picked Nixon. |
