border inspection 边境检查

International delegations arriving in Shanghai for the upcoming World Expo would be entitled to special passage for swift border inspection as the metropolis gears up for the final run-up to the international event.

在世博会的最后准备阶段，上海将为陆续抵达的外国参展团提供专用通道实行快速边境检查。

在上面的报道中，border inspection即“边境检查”，简称“边检”。Border是“边境，边界”的意思，例如：redraw the border（重划疆界）。Inspection表示“检查，检验”，例如：On closer inspection the notes proved to be forgeries.（经进一步仔细查看，发现这些钞票是伪造的。）

除了边境检查，地铁也需要加强security check（安检）。在security checkpoint（安检口）都会设有X-ray machine（X光机）看旅客是否携带了forbidden items（违禁物品）。同样为了确保产品质量安全，对产品也要进行inspection，部分优质商品可获得national inspection exemption（国家免检）证书。
