Representatives from 140 portals and websites signed a self-discipline pact Monday in Beijing, which vows to protest against illegal public relations on the Internet, xinhuanet.com reported.

据新华网报道，来自140家门户网站和其它网站的代表本周一在北京签署了行业自律公约，倡议抵制非法网络公关行为。

文中的self-discipline pact就是指“自律公约”，self-discipline就是指“自律、自我约束”。Self常用在形容词前表示“自身的”，比如self-denial（自我否定的）、self-centered（自我中心的）、self-assertive（非常自信的）等等。

Public relations on the Internet（网络公关）可以简称为PR online，又叫“线上公关”或“e公关”，它利用互联网的高科技表达手段营造企业形象，但非法的网络公关则对互联网产生了不利影响，比如利用online ‘water army’（网络水军）来造势。与“网络水军”类似的还有Internet marketer（网络推手），专门在幕后策划和包装，捧红某些网络名人。
