3.When reports came into London Zoo that a wild puma had been spotted forty-five miles south of London,they were not taken seriously.

discription常于give或make搭配,在所描述的人或物前用of:
give/make a description of sth./sb. 对某事/某人进行描述
She gave a vivid description of the match.
她对那场比赛做了生动的描述
Could you make a detailed description of the thief?
您能详细描述那个小偷的模样吗?

这里只能用if...not,而不能用unless

不可用来表达“设法作某事而未做成(应该用try)”
He tried to pursuade her but failed.
指一次性行为,不可用来表示经常性行为(应该用could),相反,不可用could表示一次性行为
He was a terrific liar:he could make anybody believe him.
