Unfortunate draw for Chinese mixed in Super Series

20
Chinese mixed doubles were so dominant that they filled a half of the last eight in the Indonesia Open Super Series, unfortunately the four pairs will have to face themselves in the quarterfinals Friday and then in the semifinals.

Fifth seed Zheng Bo and Gao Ling were the first to ensure a berth in the quarterfinals with a 21-17, 21-14 win over Jens Eriksen and Helle Nielsen of Denmark at the Bung Karno Indoor Stadium on Thursday.

They will play second seed Xie Zhongbo and Zhang Yawen, who beat Singapore's Hendri Kurniawan Saputra and Li Yujia 21-16, 16-21, 21-10.

Zhang Jun and Zhao Tingting made an amazing run by beating fourth seed Nathan Robertson and Gail Emms 21-18, 22-20.

In another all-China affair Friday, they will face He Hanbin and Yu Yang. The Chinese took 23 minutes to trash Hendra Wijaya and Jiang Yamei of Singapore 21-14, 21-10.

The draw will lead the Chinese to meet in the semifinal, thus assuring China a place in mixed doubles final.

Two South Korean pairs also must fight against each other in the quarterfinals.

Han Sang Hoon and Hwang Yu Mi upset third seed Sudket Prapakamol and Saralee Thoungthongkam of Thailand 21-18, 13-21, 21-18 in almost one hour.

Lee Jae Jin and Lee Hyo Jung were much stronger than the Polish and English combination of Michal Logosz and Natalie Munt with a convincing 21-15, 21-9 win.

Top seed Nova Widianto and Lilyana Natsir of Indonesia beat compatriots Devin Lahardi Fitriawan and Lita Nurlita 21-15, 18-21, 21-15 and will fight for a semifinal berth against England's Anthony Clark and Donna Kellogg.

Clark-Kellogg beat Danish pair Lars Paaske and Mette Schjoldager 21-18, 21-18 to advance to the quarterfinals.
