春日荡秋千 Swinging in Spring
Swinging is an old Chinese game. Many ethnic groups play it and it is most popular in northeast China as a game for Korean women. There are many forms of swinging completions: singles, doubles and team events for eight players. The Koreans play it like this: a bell is hung from the top of a pole set in front of the swing. The swingers try to touch the bell, swinging up to reach it, within the set time limit. The winner is the one who makes the most touches. Ethnic Koreas in China live around the Yalu River and the Tumen River. There, at festival time and on holidays, swings are set up on threshing floors or under tall threes. The ringing bell, the singing and laughing can be heard in every community and the Korean Skirt Dance can be seen everywhere. |
