National women's team holds off male rivals
The Chinese national women's volleyball team clinched a straight-sets to win over a local male volleyball team on Saturday in Kaiping, southeastern China's Guangdong Province. It was the second win the national team has reaped in their warm-up series against male rivals. All players were given chances in the game as the head coach, Chen Zhonghe, rotated his squad in attempts to seek a perfect lineup for the Beijing Olympics in 2008. The team nearly matched that selected for final they played against Russia at the Athens Olympics three years ago. Consecutive losses in the first two sets forced Chen's players to spare no efforts in their comeback. The girls made it, succeeded in escaping from their deficit, and rallied to notch up the final victory with a score of: 18-25, 22-25, 25-23, 25-14, 15-12. However, Chen Zhonghe was still unsatisfied with the team's performance, saying he needs more time to make the players familiar with each other. The women's team will play their next rivals on Sunday in Jiangmen |
